How do I change my site URL, site root, or blog directory name?

Vote 0 Votes

Only UThink administrators (uthink@umn.edu) can perform these actions, but we're willing to do it in special circumstances. For most UThink bloggers, this URL is sufficient:

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/[your x500]/[the directory name you chose]

We use your x500 to create a new directory so that we can be sure that UThink is creating unique blogs, not writing over existing blogs. Not everyone can have this URL:

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/myblog

But sometimes you want to change the directory name you picked when you first created the blog, or perhaps you have a department or college-wide blog and you don't want the "x500" in the URL. In these cases, we can help (uthink@umn.edu).

If you just want a shorter URL, consider using a Z URL, like this:

http://z.umn.edu/myblog

To use the University's Z URL shortener, go to http://z.umn.edu

In addition to a shorter URL, Z URLs are tracked for how many people used the link in the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, and all-time.
