How do I delete a blog?

Vote 0 Votes

First, deleting is *permanent*.

Second, this is what you would do:

  1. Go to http://blog.lib.umn.edu

  2. Log in with your x500

  3. Don't select a blog yet. Go to Manage > Blogs. If you don't see a "Blogs" option in the Manage menu, then are the options in the menu blue? They should be green colored. If they're blue, you need to deselect your blog. In the upper right corner, click on System Overview. Then go to Manage > Blogs.

  4. Check the box to the left of the blog you want to delete.

  5. Stop. Breathe. Have you checked the right box? Good. Proceed to the next step.

  6. Click on the Delete button at the top of the list.

  • If you want a backup copy of all of your entries and comments, there is a way to export these to a text file that's coded for Movable Type blogs. That way, down the road, you could import that text file into a new Movable Type blog, and it will remember the date the entry was posted, who wrote the post, and all of the entry and comment data. BEFORE YOU DELETE, log into UThink, select your blog from the dashboard, then go to Tools > Export.

  • Note that deleting a blog doesn't mean that it will immediately disappear from search engines like Google. It will take a little time before search engines re-index our domain and update their search results.
