Enrique Pena Nieto was inaugurated Saturday as the president of Mexico. Pena Nieto is a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
CNN reported that he has "promised to create economic opportunities and reduce violence."
Reuters reported that groups of protesters threw Molotov cocktails and that police had to fire tear gas at protestors.
The election took place in July, and Pena Nieto won about 38 percent of the vote.
