Miss America Aids in Sexual Predator Cases

Sting operations targeting online sexual predators featuring Miss America have landed eleven men, reports the Associated Press.
Lauren Nelson, 20, worked with police to capture would-be sexual predators by enticing them via Internet conversations, according to the AP. Nelson pretended to be a 14-year-old girl, inviting grown men to meet her at a Long Island, NY home.
During the conversations, Nelson sent the men pictures taken of her as a teenager, reports the AP.
Of the 11 men arrested for attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors, four actually went to the Long Island home, while seven turned themselves in later, according to the AP.
"'The story was that they knew I was 14, and I told them I was cutting school to meet with them,' Nelson said. 'I stood outside on the porch, and I would say hi to them and wave them inside,'" according to the AP.

Monarch's Military Moxy

England's Prince Henry's military deployment to Iraq is under review, reports the Associated Press.
"Harry's regiment, the Blues and Royals, is due to begin a six-month tour of duty in Iraq within weeks," according to the AP.
Harry, who may face a desk job instead of seeing combat, has said he would retire from military service if he isn't sent to Iraq with his regiment, reports the AP.
Offically the Cornet Wales, Harry is third in line to the throne, according to OneNews.
"A second lieutenant, Harry is a tank commander trained to lead a 12-man team in reconnaissance vehicles," reports the AP.

Sarah Silverman To Host MTV Movie Awards

Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman has signed on to host the 16th annual MTV Movie Awards, reports the Associated Press.
Silverman, 36, told the AP, "I'm training for this the way what's-her-face trained for `T2,"' in reference to Linda Hamilton in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."
This year's program will be the firtst MTV Movie Awards show to air live, according to the AP.
"I mean, I'm not a big swearer or anything, but I still seem to say things that you can't say on basic cable, so ... we're gonna have to have, like, a plan," Silverman said.
The program will air June 3 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, reports the AP.

Minneapolis Tourist Dies In Florida

A Minnesota tourist visiting the Florida Keys died after a watercraft accident Sunday, reports the Associated Press.
Rickey McMurrin of Minneapolis was killed when his personal watercraft hit a low-lying tree branch, according to AP.
McMurrin suffered injuries to his head and torso, reports the AP.
A spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission indicated McMurrin's passenger was unharmed in the accident, according to the AP.
McMurrin had been traveling with a tourist group when the accident occurred, reports the AP.

Minneapolis=Clean Says Forbes!

Forbes magazine has listed Minneapolis as one of the five cleanest cities in the world, reports WCCO News.
Minneapolis came in fifth, behind Calgary, Honolulu, Helsinki and Ottawa, according to WCCO.
The magazine attributes the city's cleanliness to "heavy use of bike lanes" and "a well functioning light rail and bus system."
"In the next five years, city operations will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12 percent," reports WCCO.
The city also plans to retain its position by expanding its light rail system to include a corridor between Minneapolis and St. Paul, according to WCCO.

Pimp My Planet: MTV Show Goes Green For An Episode

Popular MTV show "Pimp My Ride" will celebrate Earth Day Sunday the only way they know how: making a 1965 Chevy Impala run on canola oil, reports the Associated Press.
The previously-recorded episode will air Sunday and will feature an introduction by Cali. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to the Los Angeles Times.
What begins as a rusted, beat-up old muscle car, gets transformed into an environmentally conscious machine, reports the LA Times.
Additions include: "upholstery made of renewable hemp fiber and carpeting from recycled plastic bottles," and a "6.6-liter Duramax diesel V-8 engine from General Motors Corp." capable of up to 600 horsepower, according to the LA Times.
Schwarzenegger's endorsement of the episode is part of a slew of events attempting to draw international attention to issues of environmentalism and problems of global warming, reports the AP.

Eric Bana Crashes 'Painstakingly' Restored Car

Australian actor Eric Bana crashed during an "around-the-state" car rally Saturday, but walked away unharmed with his co-driver, according to the Associated Press.
During the Targa Tasmania rally, Bana, 38, and his co-driver Tony Ramunno were in 53rd of 115 cars in the Outright Classic competition at the time of the accident, reports the AP.
His car is a 1974 Ford XB Coupe that Bana has had since he was 15 years old, according to the AP.
The accient occurred when the actor "misjudged a tight left-hander" and "went into a couple of trees at a fairly low speed," Bana said, according to the AP.
The actor and co-driver emerged unscathed, and though the car was not totaled, it "is a little battered on the driver's side," Bana said, reports the AP.

NASA Contractor Allegedly Responsible For Murder-Suicide

The NASA contractor allegedly responsible for Friday's murder-suicide at Johnson Space Center received a bad performace review and feared losing his job, reports the Associated Press.
William Philips, 60, snuck into the Houston space center with a snub-nosed revolver and barricaded himself in a room that housed communications equipment, according to the AP.
Philips confronted a superior, 62-year-old David Beverly about his performance review. After several minutes, Philips shot Beverly twice and left, only to return later and shoot him twice more.
The contractor then held Fran Crenshaw, a contract worker, hostage for hours by duct-taping her to a chair, reports the AP.
Police freed Crenshaw after hearing Philips self-inflicted gunshot, according to the AP.

Viking Pleads Not Guilty

Minneapolis Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct Friday, reports the Associated Press.
Griffin, 24, was arrested Sunday at Spin Nightclub in Minneapolis after arguing with police and bouncers.
He was thrown out of the club after refusing to pull his pants up to his waist, a violation of the club's dress code, reports the AP.
Griffin was arrested then released from jail a few hours later after posting $50 bail.
Griffin is a second-year cornerback from Texas, according to the University Chronicle.

Teen Pleads Guilty For Involvement in 2006 Murder

A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty Thursday for being involved in the 2006 murder of a South Carolina graduate student, reports the Associated Press.
Donte Jacobs, 18, admitted to aiding the 2nd degree intentional murder, according to the AP.
The victim, 25-year-old Michael Zebuhr, was a grad student at Clemson University studying bioengineering.
The murder took place March 16, 2006 when Zebuhr and family were leaving an Uptown Minneapolis restaurant. Jacobs said another man, Billy Rae Deshawn Johnson, actually killed Zebuhr, while he attempted to steal Zebuhr's mother's purse, according to the AP.
Zebuhr was in the Twin Cities visiting his family when he was killed, reports the AP.

Willa Ford To Play Anna Nicole Smith In Biopic

Willa Ford, a singer, dancer and model is confirmed to star in the title role of Anna Nicole Smith in the biopic "Anna Nicole," reports Reuters.
Ford became a one-hit-wonder in the early 2000s with the single "I Wanna Be Bad." She also made a guest appearance on the TV show "Dancing With the Stars," according to the Associated Press.
Ford, like Smith posed for the popular magazine "Playboy," reports the AP.
The film will follow Smith's life from age 17 to her death on February 8, 2007, according to Reuters.
Shooting starts next week, reports Reuters.

Crocodile Takes A Bite Out Of Arm

A Taiwanese zoo worker had his arm re-attached Wednesday following a caged crocodile attack, reports the Associated Press.
Chang Po-yu was reaching into the 440-pound reptile's cage to retrieve a tranquilizer when the animal chomped through, severing his forearm, according to the Ottowa Citizen.
Co-workers shot at the crocodile to retrieve Po-yu's arm, reports the AP.
The arm and its owner were rushed to a nearby hospital where it was successfully re-attached, according to the Ottowa Citizen.
The crocodile was unharmed and Po-yu is in stable condition, reports the AP.

It's A Nice Day For A White Wedding

More than half of 2,000 wedding gowns stolen en route to an California charity event were recovered at the Mexico-United States border Wednesday.
Valued at $2 million-plus, the gowns were discovered while a tractor-trailer driver attempted to re-enter the U.S. at Nosgales, Ariz., reports the Associated Press.
The gowns were initially stolen in transit to a charity event benefitting breast cancer, reports the AP.
The driver has not been officially connected with the theft, according to the AP.
He was arrested and the truck has been impounded, reports the AP.

Akita Is Destroyed After Child Attack

An 8-year-old Minneapolis boy suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog that escaped from its yard Friday.
DeVonta Prince was walking to school before 8 a.m. when an Akita broke off its chain and attacked the boy, the Star Tribune reports.
Police say the attack was unprovoked, according to the Star Tribune.
The child spent more than three hours in surgery after the dog bit his head, torso and hands.
The dog was collected by Animal Control and destroyed upon consent of its owner, reports the Star Tribune.

Teenage Mother Responsible For Killing Her Newborn Baby

A 17-year-old Oakdale girl was charged with 1st degree murder Thursday after being accused of stabbing her newborn baby 135 times, the Star Tribune reports.
Nicole Beecroft hid her pregnancy from friends and family, and it is unclear how long she had known she was pregnant, according to the Star Tribune.
The criminal complaint states that early Monday morning Beecroft went to the bathroom, but "something didn't feel right," iafrica.com reports. The girl then gave birth on a laundry room floor.
Initially, Beecroft claimed the baby had been stillborn. Though a clear motive has not been established, she changed her story after the body was found, claiming she stabbed the infant after seeing its finger move, reports the Star Tribune.
Police found the body, a knife and bloody towels in a garbage can outside her house after receiving an anonymous tip, according to iafrica.com.
