Three Gopher debaters recently returned from a tournament hosted by the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and each student earned high honors at the competition.

In the Varsity division, the team of Kelly Nickel (Sr-Parker CO) and Daryl Pinto (Sr-Dallas TX) advanced to the quarterfinal elimination round, after compiling a record of 5 wins and 2 losses in the preliminary seeding rounds.

In the Junior Varsity division, Courtney Schauer (Fr-Cedarburg WI) advanced to the quarterfinal elimination round, and was also named the top individual speaker in her division.

Congrats to all, and good luck to the FOURTEEN UofM students who will be representing the U at the Viking Debates, hosted by Augustana College, Moline IL, January 29-31, 2010.

For the second consecutive year, the University of Minnesota will be hosting the Minnesota State High School League's debate championship tournament. The competition will draw entries from throughout the state, and include both Cross-Ex and Lincoln Douglas divisions.

The tournament will be held on Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16, 2010. Most rounds will be in Blegen Hall on the west bank, and all debates are open to the public.
