Journal Says Global Warming Document Was Blocked
This article from the NY times environment section is about how the U.S. Department of Commerce blocked the release of an important document. The contents of this document included scientific links between Global Warming and the recent rise in the number and intensity of hurricanes. Now why would the Department of Commerce block such a document? Once again, the Bush administration is manipulating the information that the public sees attempting to sway public opinion toward a republican point of view. Why would they do something like this? I wonder exactly how much money in contributions the Bush Administration and other Republican campaigns are recieving from big oil companies. Where would these contributions go if global warming was widely believed to be a major problem and was officially addressed as one by the Republican Party, which holds the majority in congress. This country needs to start taking global warming seriously. Oil companies should be taxed and/or given incentives to create new clean energy production methods. Subsidies should be given out to those who are committed to renewable energies and the production of a new clean fuel source for motor vehicles such as hydrogen. Major tax incentives should also be given to people who own clean energy resources such as fuel cell cars, PV Cells, windmills, etc. We COULD be in big trouble if we don't respond to the threats of global warming. I emphasize could because we don't know what will actually happen when the effects of global warming kick in. However, is gambling on it the right policy? Is depending on the effects being minimal a good enough policy for you? This almost sounds like the half-ass job New Orleans did with its levee system. They chose to gamble assuming the effects of a breach would be minimal. Look what happened. Now lets look what happens if we are not prepared for the worst possible outcomes of global warming, and remember, this would be on a global scale.
