Plants with senses?
The NY Times posted an article today regarding a recent discovery of a plant scientists have been researching for a while, the dodder. The dodderis a weed that has been a big nusience to farmers and their good crops for some time now. The weed wraps itself around other plants (tomatos being it's favorite) and sucks the life out of it or at least all the nutrients it can. This is done because this particular weed does not undergo photosynthesis (the process most plantsuse to gain their nutrients). Scientists have found that the dodder has a sense of smell and is able to detect what plant it wold like to hook onto. It picks up on a chemical released by a plant and sniffs it out. Eventually the dodder begins to grow in the direction of it's desired victim; lol like a plant vampire.
