On November 7, 2011, Barbara Sporlein (MA '90) began her appointment as deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. As the state's affordable housing bank, Minnesota Housing offers products and services to help Minnesotans buy and repair homes and supports the development and preservation of affordable rental housing by offering financing and on-going asset management of affordable rental housing developments. Sporlein's primary responsibilities include talent management, agency-wide planning and operations, and credit risk management. Prior to this position, she served as the planning director for the City of Minneapolis, the deputy director of the St. Paul Public Housing Agency. Sporlein started her career as a planner for the City of St. Paul. She continues to be active in the Humphrey School community and has served as a volunteer mentor for 12 years.
