"Oversight of Biomedical Technologies: What Can We Learn from Past Efforts?" on March 6

Patricia King, Roy Wilkins’ sister-in-law and Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law, Medicine, Ethics, and Public Policy at Georgetown University, will talk about from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in Coffman Memorial Union Theater. Tremendous controversy surrounds the question of how to exercise effective oversight over cutting-edge biomedical technologies. At the federal level, past efforts have included presidentially appointed panels, NIH and FDA expert committees, and calls for legislation. As a participant in a number of these efforts, King will reflect on what has worked and what has not, and what lessons can be learned for future oversight. For more information call (612) 625-0055.
