"Internet Research Ethics: Issues and Guidelines for Ethical Decision-making"

Ethics in Cyperspace is a new two-part seminar at the University designed to address the ethical dilemmas and questions that must be considered when conducting research in online networks, communities, and learning environments. How do researchers determine when online speech or activities are intended as public or private? When can the researcher analyze and quote information online without consent, and under what conditions is consent necessary? Part one, “Internet Research Ethics: Issues and Guidelines for Ethical Decision-making,” will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 21, in room 40 at Peik Hall (East Bank). Registration is free. The program also fulfills the responsible conduct of research (RCR) continuing education requirements.
