"Where fairy tales and policy meet: Civilizing kids in uncivilized times" February 24

Art and policy intersect again as the Minnesota Opera and the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs convene a public policy conversation inspired by the American premiere of “The Adventures of Pinocchio.� Moderated by opera commentator Robert Marx, the distinguished panel includes Sheena Thao from the Humphrey Institute’s Center for School Change; renowned fairy-tale scholar Jack Zipes; composer Jonathan Dove; and librettist Alasdair Middleton. Exploring the literary and operatic worlds of “Pinocchio,� panelists will tackle contemporary systems for how we teach—or don’t teach—civility to our children today. Musical selections will be presented by the composer. The free program begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24. Registration is required by calling 612-333-6669.
