Join members of the Warrior to Citizen Campaign for a brown bag presentation with Father Michael Lapsley, founder of the Institute for the Healing of Memories, from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, in Freeman Commons (205 Humphrey Center). This special presentation will provide an overview of how storytelling can be used as a way for military veterans to explore their experiences and begin the process of healing. All are welcome to attend.
Father Michael Lapsley, who lost both hands and an eye after opening a letter bomb during his involvement in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, founded the Institute for the Healing of Memories in Cape Town and now travels internationally to train facilitators and lead workshops for people who have experienced different kinds of violence. A subcommittee of the Warrior to Citizen Campaign is exploring the possibility of a Healing of Memories workshop for veterans in the fall.
The Warrior to Citizen Campaign is a statewide grassroots effort to provide enduring support to Minnesota's returning veterans and their families. It is organized by the Humphrey Institute's Center for Democracy and Citizenship.
