"Leadership in Challenging Times" June 25

Join us for “Leadership in Challenging Times,” a conversation with Hubert Joly, on Thursday, June 25, from 5 to 6:15 p.m. in Cowles Auditorium. Leadership often has been modeled on heroic figures that rely on command-and-control and top-down decision making. Recent failures in the corporate and political worlds have tainted this notion of leadership and undermined public confidence in leaders. A new approach of leadership is emerging that emphasizes shared decision making, social responsibility, and stewardship of the public good. Joly, president and CEO of Carlson, a leader in the hospitality industry, will discuss leadership challenges and opportunities in today’s corporate world: Can ethical values be integrated with the imperatives of the marketplace? If so, how? And what roles and responsibilities do leaders in the private and public sectors have to work together to address public problems? This event is sponsored by the Humphrey Institute’s Center for the Study of Politics and Governance and the Carlson School of Management.
