The Humphrey Institute's Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy co-sponsored a town hall meeting at the University of Minnesota to explore issues and opportunities from aggressively pursuing new energy and economic policies.
2009 presents Minnesota with a unique moment in history. The state and the nation find themselves in a triple crisis through a deep economic downturn, a proximate need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and a growing recognition of our energy dependence on foreign fuel sources. What is Washington doing and what can be done to repower, refuel and rebuild our economy? Is Minnesota positioned to benefit and can it lead the way? These concepts will be addressed by a panel of experts and a dialogue will follow that covers topics raised by business, academic and civic leaders.
Speakers include: President Robert H. Bruininks of the University of Minnesota, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Doug Cameron, chief science advisor of Piper Jaffray Investment Management, J. Drake Hamilton, science policy director of Fresh Energy, Louis J. King II, president and CEO of Summit Academy OIC, Professor Alfred Marcus of the Carlson School of Management, and Steve Kelley of the Humphrey Institute.
