Arts, cultural leaders challenged to refocus for next grants cycle

Ann Markusen and Humphrey School alumna Anne Gadwa explore the dimensions of creative placemaking on a community level.

In a 2010 white paper developed for "The Mayors' Institute on City Design," authors Ann Markusen and Anne Gadwa defined creative placemaking, in part, as this: "In creative placemaking, partners from public, private, nonprofit and community sectors strategically shape the physical and social character of a neighborhood, town, city or region around arts and cultural activities.
