Morris Kleiner weighs in on the effects of state licensing requirements.
University of Minnesota Professor Morris Kleiner found the number of workers in professions requiring a state license grew from 4.5% of the workforces in the 1950's to 20% of all workers by 2006. Kleiner wrote in the Fall 2006 edition of Regulation:"Occupational regulation has grown because it serves the interests of those in the occupation as well as government. Members of an occupation benefit if they can increase the perception of quality and thus the demand for their services, while restricting supply simultaneously."
