And according to the University of Minnesota`s "Smart Politics" report, that ties John McCain, actually, in 2008 for the lowest vote tally in a home state win. And it`s among the weakest home state performances since 1972. The only other major Republican presidential candidates who didn`t win a majority in their home state were George Herbert Walker Bush in 1980 and Pat Robertson in Virginia in 1988. Both Bush and Robertson ended up losing, by the way.
