James Oberstar addresses the importance of multimodal transit options.
The dialogue was keynoted by the Honorable James Oberstar, a former Congressman from Minnesota and former chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He spoke about the importance of investing in new and innovative forms of transit, allowing cities to move away from such a strong culture of personal automobiles. The discussion suggested Bus Rapid Transit - busses that incorporate many aspects of trains (dedicated road lanes, payment in stations prior to entering the bus etc) to increase the speed, dependability and efficiency - as a more affordable and flexible transit option for cities short on money.
