The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications for the position of Director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The successful candidate also will hold the Stephen C. Feinstein Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, a newly created endowed chair (tenured professorship) at the University of Minnesota.

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies was founded in 1997 and has a broad mission to engage the study of genocides, other crimes against humanity, and human rights norms, both historically and in the present. It has been a focal point of activity for faculty, students, and staff across the disciplines at the University of Minnesota and a larger regional and national community. The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies has developed a major array of programs that involve outreach to K-12 teachers and others in Minnesota and the region; teaching undergraduate and graduate students; sponsorship of lectures conferences, and public programs; and scholarly research. We expect the director to maintain the broad mission and interdisciplinary character of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

The Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs term (non-tenure-track) faculty to fill in for regular faculty who may be on leave. Term faculty include visiting, contract, adjunct or temporary appointments. Positions will be appointed for the 2008/09 academic year: fall semester 2008 (8/25/08-1/7/09) or spring semester (1/8/09-5/24/09) or summer 2009 (May - August).

The Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota occasionally needs teaching specialists or lecturers to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Openings of this kind sometime occur for teaching evening and summer session, as well as day courses. The courses are primarily introductory or survey courses. Potential openings for the 2008-09 academic year may include African history, early American history, Europe/Germany, international world, ancient Israel, and modern Japan. These positions are temporary and can either be full-time or part-time. This search will establish a "pool" of instructors. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis through the academic year. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Appointment dates: Fall 2008 (8/25/08-1/7/09), Spring 2009 (1/8/09-5/24/09), May Session/Summer 2009.
