Growing up I was always the kid who tried to stretch the rules and not always follow the exact guidelines given. Engineer management have a structured way of coming to solutions. Typically looking at all of the possible decisions then coming to an answer to solve the problems. For an artist there are typically no set rules or guidelines to follow rather more free to be expressive and think outside the box. For myself I find myself as in between in how I would manage people. Set rules that are more of suggestions than actually protocol to make decisions. I like to think outside the box and come up with clever solutions much like artists. So in many ways I believe there is a happy median that one can achieve between the two styles and that is exactly where I fit in when talking about managing.
Growing up playing baseball was a great example of how I follow the rules but do not necessarily do things the typical way. I always loved to steal bases so at a young age I would always steal home. This is typically a bad idea but I enjoyed the thrill of taking chances. This is exactly how I like to manage people, high risk, high reward. I see this as an attribute rather than a hindrance to success and in many situations if you are not willing to take chances you will turn out to be nothing more than mediocre in some cases.
