OCLC's Top 1000 List

OCLC has recently published its "Top 1000" list for 2005. There's also an option to list subsets of the complete list by broad subject area, including music materials.

In the number 1 spot on the music list we find Handel's Messiah with 22,206 library holdings and 1522 bibliographic records in OCLC; Messiah is no. 45 on the 2005 complete list. Rounding off the music list is Oklahoma by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein (5302 library holdings and 237 bibliographic records; it's number 993 on the complete list). Scrolling though the list brings out the usual suspects (lots of opera), plus treasures such as "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (no. 17 on the music list and no. 181 on the complete list).

For more information see the Top 1000 page at the OCLC website.
