Barcode Procedure Change
There has been a change in TS policy for the use of "red" barcodes. Effective immediately, staff will no longer use the "red" (a.k.a. striped, piggyback) barcodes for materials. Barcodes should always be placed on the back cover, not on the inside back page, as was the practice with the red barcodes.
The only exceptions to this new policy are materials for Special Collections, the Music Library, and the occasional fragile item.
So, this will not affect scores or sound/video recordings for the Music Library; but note that most monographs (especially those coming shelf-ready) will now have "white" barcodes, even for softcover volumes.

Periodicals with Accompanying Material
A new procedure for handling accompanying material with periodicals issues has been posted to the TS webpage Special Formats Cataloging corner.
In short, serials processors should route any accompanying materials directly to the labeled shelf in Kristi Bergland's office, and music catalogers will do the rest.

Wilson Routing for Music Library Materials
Routing questions--more than one really--have come up and so there is a need to clarify the situation regarding the Music Library's materials. Kristi Bergland should be given all the Music Library materials needing cataloging, except journals and monographs that are published singly or as a complete set of volumes arriving together. She also is the point person to the Music Library staff members. She has shelves in her workspace right inside the door where materials needing cataloging can be placed.
If you have any questions about the routing of Music Library materials, please ask Kristi, Mary or Linda Lomker.
Kristi or Mary can answer any questions you have about the cataloging of these materials

Scores Exceeding 27 cm. in Width
Do not assign "Quarto" or "Folio" size designations for scores that are less than 27 cm. in height but exceed 27 cm. width (e.g., organ or keyboard music, etc.). For scores that are 40 cm. or greater in width, assign the size designation "Oversize."
I've added this instruction to the Streamliners guides for scores.

New Accompanying Materials Procedure Posted
A new version of the procedures for cataloging and processing books and scores with accompanying materials for the Music Library has been posted to the TS Web Special Formats page. These procedures should be used when any book or score has accompanying audio discs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, etc.
