A Clear Lake man was accused Wednesday of killing his girlfriend's 16-month-old son.
Dennis James Angell, 24, who lived with his girlfriend and her son in the Santiago Township was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter for the Sunday death of the boy, the Star Tribune said.
He is being held in the Sherburne County Jail with a $50,000, the St. Cloud Times said.
Police responded to a call saying that the boy was not breathing and was choking. After airlifting the boy to the St. Cloud Hospital, the boy was pronounced dead, the St. Cloud Times said.
Angell told authorities he was the last one with the toddler before his death. He also told them that he had become angry with the boy when he became fussy and would not fall asleep, so he held a pillow up to the boy's face to stop his crying, the Star Tribune said.
Angell said he held the pillow up to the boy's face for about 40 seconds until the boy stopped moving, the Star Tribune said.
A bloody pillow was found underneath the toddler's bed, the St. Cloud Times said.
