The remains of two women and an 11-year-old boy were found Thursday who have been missing since Nov. 10.
The remains of Stephanie Sprang, 41, Tina Herrmann, 32, and Herrmann's 11-year-old son, Kody, were found Thursday inside garbage bags there were stuffed inside a hollow tree, CBS News said.
Herrmann's 13-year-old daughter, Sarah, was found bound and gagged in the basement of Matthew Hoffman's home. Hoffman is a convicted arsonist, the New York Daily News said.
Hoffman was arrested and charged with kidnapping upon the discovery of Sarah and is being held on a $1 million bail. However, officials say the charges will change because of the remains being found, the New York Daily News said.
Authorities said Sprang, Herrmann, and Kody were attacked and stabbed multiple times in the chest and back in Herrmann's Apple Valley home. The remains of the Herrmann family dog were also found inside the garbage bags, CBS News said.
Family friends said they think the property had been watched prior by the attacker before the killings, CBS News said.
