Corn Mush
The other day Jody made this corn mush stuff - tastes like corn bread but in a pudding form - her mom used to make it. You put butter and syrup on it. Anyway when Jody tried to give PJ a spoonful, he made a face and took it out of his mouth. We actually found a food he doesn't like! Ever since he has been very distrustful of anything we try to give him on a spoon!
Posted by hunte046 at December 1, 2004 05:46 PMMy mom used to make that - we called it cornmeal mush and it's the warmest breakfast I can think of on a cold winter day.
When we went to Africa we found out folks there have a whole bunch of variations on this theme. Porridge made from corn or sorghum meal is the staple starch and folks make in increasing thickness as the day goes on. Breakfast porridge is like Jody probably made and dinner porridge is thick enough you can slice it like bread - reminded me of polenta.
I still think the best way to eat it is with maple syrup on a cold winter morning!

I actually did make polenta out of the leftovers of that batch of cornmeal mush PJ didn't care for -- it was so good with a meal of spaghetti. I always thought that polenta was hard to make...
