Enjoy just a few pics of some winter fun in the playground... practicing pulling the sleds, making snow angels, large group outdoors, sledding and large group again!
Our first large group outdoors... noticing birds' nests and talking about different kinds of birds... we all spread bird seed to feed our playground birds...
We talk about making a cozy place for birds to eat bird seed... first we gather twigs and leaves...
Then we spread bird seed...
"Tell me about what you have here..."
Leo: "This is the grass..."
Leo: "Antonio, I found a nice pattern for you..."
Alper: "This one goes here... with this..."
"Why is that, why do they go together?"
Alper: "Because they are the same."
"You mean they have the same pattern..."
Alper: "Yest, like this..."
"So why do you have dragonflies' patterns here and also here?
Alper: "Because these are bad dragonflies, these two are good..."
"I understand... so they have to be separate?
Alper: "Yes, because these are good and these are bad...."
One of our tadpoles died...
"How many tadpoles can you see?"
Can you count how many?
Georgia: "There's two..."
How many did we have before winter break?
Isaac: "We had three."
All of them: "Where is the other one?"
James: "Where is it?"
"We buried it."
James: "What happened to it?"
"It got very sick and died."
James: "Why its not here?"
"What would happen if we would live the dead tadpole in the tank?"
Georgia: "The others would eat it and die."
We changed their water, put little rocks in the aquarium and observed so that we could draw...
"What is that man doing?"
Aoife: "He is going to check on his girl..."
"What is his girl doing?"
Aoife: "She is getting some air... he is getting some air too... getting some air from the tree...
"What is that (there is a fence)?"
Aoife: "So they don't run around..."
"Like a fence?"
Aoife: "Yes, so they don't run around in the parking lot..."
The children are looking at the map of the world with little pictures of birds... we talked about birds' migration South during our winter season...
Charlie Elliot: "Look what I did... I put all the birds down...
Charlie E: "That's where South America is... the birds migrate there..."
Isaac: "Where are we?
"Let's see... it says Minneapolis here..."
Isaac: "Then, I must be here... ST. Paul (he lives in St. Paul) (puts a little bird right next to Minneapolis..."
"I guess there still are birds around here during the winter..."
Isaac: "Yes... here in St. Paul..."
Alper: "Where is Minneapolis (Alper lives in Minneapolis)?"
Isaac: "Here, next to St. Paul..."
Alper: "I'm going to put my bird in Minneapolis."
Charlie E: "I landed all my birds in the South..."
Let's think about the steps we need to take to make sure our Baby Oak Tree continues to grow...
Take a look at our busy week...
Investigating leaves, gym time, measuring seeds, weighting gourds, sensory materials, sing-a-long with Nyna' class and rubbing leaves...
learning together and from each other...
all together... our first nature walk... observing and noticing the changes all around us...
getting to know each other...
finding interesting things...
enjoying the end of the day together...
Here a little bit about our new, yet experienced student teachers. Meet Mary Beth, Elizabeth and Natalie!!
I have attached a short bio about myself, along with a picture.
I will update you with the new student teachers bios and their photos soon!!
Our classroom's open house will take place on Thursday, September 17th
Children with last names A-L 12:30-1:15
Children with last names M-Z 1:30-2:15
Please make sure you come at the right times. The open classroom allows children to familiarize themselves with the classroom in a very informal way. This a good time to show them the different areas of the classroom (as well as cubbies and bathrooms). It also gives them one more opportunity to see the teacher before school starts. Parents stay with the children during the open house.
Please bring a set of labeled extra clothes in a ziplog bag to keep at school.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
These are my classroom goals for the beginning of the year

Please don't forget to bring a family picture as well as a picture of your favorite tree in your neighborhood. We will keep track of how the tree changes and expand on that and learn about the life cycles in general throughout the year!!
Welcome to Dalia's classroom everyone!
