Determined by the excellent turnout at our first presentation, HORA is
happy to invite you to the 2010 first quarterly lecture. It will be a celebration
of spring, following Romanian traditions through their journey to Minnesota.
To be held on Saturday March 13th in Coffman Union at 4:00 pm in Coffman Memorial Union's Mississippi Room (3rd Floor), Minneapolis on U of M's East Bank.
The first presentation showcases ancient and pagan customs
such as Martisor, Babele, and Dragobete, together with Romanian
Easter culinary and art traditions, exemplified with painted
eggs. Originally a religious custom, Mucenici has become a
baker's delight and will be sampled at the event.
The second presentation highlights the interconnections between
Romanian dance, music, and rhythms and the Balkan cultures
that have influenced them. The dances of four regions -
Moldova, Dobrogea, Banat and Ardeal are explored.
Everyone is welcome! Admission is free and we invite donations, which will
be used towards the development of our organization.
The presentations will take place from 4 to 6 pm, followed by discussions.
Light refreshments served. Romanian gift items, including religious and traditional
Easter cards, will be offered for donations.
