This four-hour hands-on computer workshop (offered twice, on two different dates) will introduce materials and research techniques that address the unique challenges faced by genealogists looking for their ancestors from German-speaking Europe. The first half of the workshop will provide a general overview of resources--online and off--on this side of the Atlantic; the second half will focus on records available in historic German-American communities and in Europe.
Instructors: Lori Bessler and Antje Petty
Lori Bessler has worked at the Wisconsin Historical Society Library Archives since 1988 as a Reference Librarian and Outreach Coordinator and for over 20 years has lectured throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest on genealogical topics. She has been researching family history for over 35 years.
Antje Petty is Assistant Director at the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In that capacity, she has researched the family histories of Americans who emigrated from German-speaking Europe.
