Peter Joseph Gloviczki's first full-length collection is Kicking Gravity (Salmon Poetry, 2013). He recently
completed his PhD in mass communication at the
University of Minnesota. Gloviczki's poems have appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, Hayden's Ferry Review, New Orleans Review, 32 Poems, and elsewhere.

Smithsonian Folklife Festival--Hungarian Heritage
The Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival program at the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival will highlight the vitality of Hungary's cultural heritage. It will bring to the National Mall in Washington highly skilled masters and apprentices from rural Central Europe who maintain the traditional knowledge acquired in their native environments. The Festival program will also bring musicians, dancers, and artisans from more urban settings who have revived many of these older traditions to make them part of their daily lives.

June 26-30, 2013 and July 3-7, 213

The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.,
between the Smithsonian museums. There is no admission charge.

Minneapolis St. Paul Iternational Film Festival, April 11th - 28th, 2013

The 2013 Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival launches April 11, just days from now! This year they are honored to present a number of films from Eastern Europe. The Festival will screen some 200 international independent feature length and short films representing over 60 countries in an array of new and returning programs and will feature visits from prominent international filmmakers and celebrities and a host of galas, events, parties, and panel discussions.

]]> Adriatic islands played an important role in ancient navigation and economy. The centrality of the Adriatic Sea for travel and exchange between the Mediterranean and European societies conditioned the life and economy of the islanders. The island's landscape and seascape and the nature of settlements were dynamic and responded to changing historical scenarios.

The island of St. Clement, with its agricultural land, deep bays with good anchorage and resources for salt production and stone quarrying has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Geophysical survey and excavation conducted on a Roman villa in Soline Bay since 2007 have shown the evidence of multi-period occupation, from the Hellenistic period to Late Antiquity. With the perspective of island archaeology and interdisciplinary approach, our international team studies the island's society in the context of maritime culture and patterns of regional and long-distance connectivity.

Our project is contributing to the preservation of Croatian cultural and archaeological heritage to the local community development.

Zedashe Tapestry Ensemble coming to the Twin Cities

A group of eleven singers, dancers and musicians from the Zedashe Ensemble will be coming to the Twin Cities during the first week in April. Over the course of four days they will be giving two concerts, two dance workshops , and a music workshop (choice of singing or instrumental music); the workshops will be at Tapestry Folkdance Center. This will be a rare, if not unique, opportunity to see folklore from this region of the world performed by natives.

We would like to invite Hungarian-Americans and anyone interested in supporting the Minnesota Hungarians to become active members of the Minnesota Hungarians. Our mission is to represent and promote Hungarian culture and heritage in Minnesota and the US. Another important aspect of the Minnesota Hungarians is to Support philanthropic activities such as the on-going support of the Deva, Transylvanian St. Francis orphanage as well as lending support to catastrophic events.
Provide opportunities for local Hungarians to gather together and socialize.
Support the Kids Club so that parents can share their Hungarian culture with their children and each other (and as an example giving Mikulas bags to the kids at the Christmas party)
Support the Videki Hungarian Dancers, who represent our culture in numerous venues throughout the year.

In the tradition of true Gypsy orchestras, the RAJKÓ will alter the program to suit the specific concert audience and the musician's own creative mood!
