Don Pafko, long-time IHRC supporter and former president of Friends of the IHRC, has been named as Honorary Consul for Slovakia, with Minnesota being the newest addition to the Slovakian consular network in the United States.
On December 11, Don Pafko officially was named to the position. He has informally supported Slovak culture and the needs of that state's citizens in the United States for many years, and his role in facilitating connections between the two countries is expected to increase with the appointment.
The Honorary Consulate will be located in Minneapolis, MN, and was announced in the presence of numerous representatives of Slovakia and invited guests on Thursday, Dec. 10, as a large event held at a downtown Minneapolis hotel. Community, governmental, academic, and business representatives from both Minnesota and Slovakia attended the event.
Slovak dignitaries extended their visit in order to meet with State of Minnesota counterparts in order to encourage economic cooperation between Minnesota and Slovakia, which are roughly the same size and population.
