IPID is kicking off the spring semester with an Open House and panel discussion on the role of NGO's in Sierra Leone. The Open House from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm will be an opportunity to learn more about IPID, connect with other students interested in international issues, and enjoy free appetizers, cake and beverages. The Sierra Leone panel discussion will follow from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm and feature discussants Alpha Kargbo (first chairman, All Peoples Congress), Issa Mansarray (journalist and founder, The Africa Paper), and Jeff Hall (founder, OneVillage Partners, Minneapolis and Sierra Leone).
Panelist Information
Alpha Kargbo is the first Chairman of the All Peoples Congress (APC) in Minnesota. The APC is the ruling political party in Sierra Leone.
Issa Mansarray is the founder and editor of The AfricaPaper - Africa's first newspaper of record. A strong advocate of press freedom and human rights, Issa recently started the Africa Institute for International Reporting (AIIR)in the Twin Cities to train, and strengthen journalism in Africa.
Jeff Hall is the founder of OneVillage Partners, a local NGO that helps to support the needs of rural populations in post-war Sierra Leone. His organization works to bridge the urban / rural divide in public service in three rural villages through holistic and sustainable development programs in five areas: health, water & sanitation, agriculture, education, and income generation.
