Something to think about

I came across this photo today after class and it really struck me because this is basically what we talk about on a daily basis and it goes to show that nothing is really changing in our society. Powerful and rich people get away with many things that they should be held accountable for. I think the picture explains itself. 311031_2052589630476_1116581580_31749088_878844972_n.jpg

This photo is a testament to what America centers justice on: color. A white American who embezzles 3 billion dollars from Americans is sentenced to a little under six years in prison, yet an African American is sentenced to 15 years in prison because of a bank heist that included a 100 dollar bill? Color is the basis of the justice system in the United States. It always has been, nothing has changed. Troy Davis and Casey Anthony is another prime example of biased justice, yet the nation accepts it. Most white Americans do not seem to acknowledge this grave circumstance. And people of color must suffer the consequences. It infuriates me that the United States cottle the majority and imprison and kill the minority.

This is much of what the OWS belief is centered on. American society is keeping people in low class standings and allowing the rich to get richer. Unfortunately due to loss of jobs, we have a dwindling middle class and the wealth gap is just getting larger and larger.

I agree with both comments. I find it outrageous that race and color are factors in the justice system. It is not fair at all for white executives to get away with 40 months from $3 billion and a man of color to get 15 years for $100. It just angers me that this happens in our society!
