Most beautiful snow

Norwegians say, "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes."

As we prepare for another bout of the white material, what can you do to make the most out of a snow-heavy February?

Decision time or waiting time?

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday!!

It is almost the end of February. This month has been a busy one for me. I have written four quizzes, submitted four short papers, and gave a presentation all in the past five weeks of school. I am currently getting ready to submit a poster for presentation at a conference in Washington, DC early next week. It may be an anxious time for you too as you wait for the admission letter from the schools you applied to last fall or if you are lucky are deciding which school/program to go to (congratulation on your admission!), or you are still waiting. If I remember correctly this time last year I had received about three letters of admissions and I was waiting on others (I applied to 10 schools!)

So how I did I make the decision to attend the University of Minnesota?

Study at the U is FUN?

Do you like studying?

I do not know so many people who say "YES!" even hard-working post graduate students.

...Me?

I say yes. I say no.

A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit!

Hello Everybody!

Welcome to the spring semester of 2011 at the U of M!

Have you had a great winter vacation? Mine was awesome--I went back home and visited my families and friends. We kept talking, eating and playing. I guess this is how it should be looked like once you are away from home for a long time, isn't it?

I would say everything went on pretty well during my stay at home except one thing, which is I got my stuff stolen two days in a row--one is my ipod touch, the other is my digital camera. This is the thing I would like to emphasize for all international students once they go back home either just for vacation or post-graduation career--please be very very mindful about your surroundings since it changed greatly.

The magic word is...

Salam everyone,
I've missed you guys!! It's been a while since I last blogged. We had a little over a month off of school for winter break, and I decided to go back home to visit my family and friends. I haven't had a chance to travel back to Bahrain since I moved to the States to pursue my masters degree, that was about a year and a half ago. It was a wonderful trip and it was SO good to see my parents, my siblings, my cousins and some of my childhood friends again.

This blog concerns one of the top reasons to go to graduate school: Conferences.

I am happy to be back

Hi everyone!
Happy New Year 2011 and welcome back to my blog!
I have some exciting news for you. Over the winter break (or summer considering I was in Africa) I got married! I was very happy to see all my friends and relatives back home in Tanzania and to meet my new family in Swaziland. The weather was perfect and my wedding day was the best day of my life. I was and I still am very very happy! It was hard planning a wedding while studying last fall but it was all worth it in the end and more proof that there is life in graduate school! I am happy to be back in Minnesota (despite the chilling weather) to start my spring semester and my last year of graduate school!

My Life in "Minnesota Cold"

Happy New Semester, readers!

Spring semester 2011 is here! I'm happy to come back to this blog.

Actually, this is the busiest semester for me ever, but I'm doing pretty good. A lot of study, work, but many fun events as well. Are you wondering how come that I enjoy the winter in "Minnesota Cold"?

Here is what's going on here... :)

Campus for lunch?

As an Italian attending the University of Minnesota, I think that food is not a problem in campus. For your lunch break, for example, you have a huge variety of options, from the classic Chipotle (great burritos!) to the more characteristic Bun-Mi , an awesome Vietnamese sandwich place, passing thru Punch Pizza, my favorite Italian pizza place (in Minneapolis!). And if you decide to have a coffee after lunch, I will suggest either Starbucks (I always get their dark roast of the day, delicious!) or Espresso Expose (go with doppio espresso!).
All these fast food places and many others are located in the Stadium village, about 5 minutes walk from the Electrical Engineering department, in the middle of Minneapolis campus right in front of TCF Stadium.

However, you find other good places inside of Coffman Memorial Union,

about 7 minutes walking, where you could stay after lunch for either studying or for a coffee! Starbucks is there too!!
As a student of the University of Minnesota you get very spoiled, food-wise. This can only be good for an International Student, because I think that one of the first needs you have almost naturally in a foreign country is your home country food and you are likely to find it even during your breaks in campus. And, on the other side, you can also experience and enjoy many different cousine!
