Is there a cheap, efficient way to make fuel?

Chemical engineering and materials science professor Lanny Schmidt and a team of U researchers are working on a process that could slash the cost of producing renewable fuels from plant-derived materials. The process works 10 to 100 times faster than current technologies and could be done in facilities about 10 times smaller than today.
