Solar Decathlon kick-off meeting Feb. 7

Find out how you can get involved in an exciting opportunity to be part of the University of Minnesota's new Solar Decathlon team by attending a special student kick-off meeting.

Solar Decathlon Student Group Kick-off
Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008
4-6 p.m.
Rapson Hall courtyard.

At the kick-off meeting the group will present information regarding the 2009 competition guidelines, show sample entries from the 2007 Decathlon, and discuss the team's approach to the 2009 Decathlon. Food and beverages will be served.

To successfully compete in this project, the team needs many students from across the University to participate. The team is currently seeking new team members from across the University in several areas of study including:

  • Marketing
  • Economics
  • Journalism/communications
  • Housing studies
  • Interior design
  • Architectural design and landscape architecture
  • Mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering
  • Construction management
  • Residential building science

Even if you're not studying one of the above areas, but are still interested, you are welcome to come to the meeting and find out more about this exciting project.

The University of Minnesota is one of only 20 international teams chosen by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy to compete in the 2009 Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon is an international competition that brings student teams from universities across the United States, Europe and Canada to compete in designing, building and operating highly energy-efficient, completely solar-powered houses. The teams assemble their homes on the National Mall in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and open them to the public.
