Energy Production Methods in Scandinavia

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING 3940
MAY 17 - JUNE 3, 2011 (TENTATIVE)

Seminar Description
Award-winning instructor, Paul Imbertson (electrical and computer engineering), will return to Scandinavia once again. You will study existing and planned energy production methods and energy usage in Scandinavia. The program will focus on how energy production and usage patterns are linked to specific details of location; and how the issues of production, usage, and environmental concerns have created the current tensions that are driving new energy planning. Site visits will include research universities, a wind turbine manufacturer, power plants, wind farms, hydro facilities, and solar component manufacturers. This seminar includes excursions to Iceland, Denmark, and Norway.

Topics will include:

  • Scandinavian Energy Philosophy
  • Geothermal Energy
  • Hydroelectric
  • Energy in Aluminum Production
  • Wind Energy
  • Wave Energy
  • PV Manufacturing
