Rayce Day 9: In to Medicine Hat

After locating a motel less than 3 minutes from our charging location last night, the team was grateful to 'sleep in;' we only had to get up at 6AM! After an excellent evening charge and a respectable morning charge, we were ready for the long push in to Medicine Hat, AB.

Rayce Day 8: Across Canada

After a pretty laid back night in Winnipeg (even though we got lost getting to our hotel), the team was anxious to get on with the next stage of racing.

Rayce Day 7: In to Canada!

We started out this morning about 40 miles south of Grand Forks, ND. The morning was cloudy, so we got very little power going in to the pack. However, due to a conservative strategy yesterday and a great evening charge last night, we were able to run fairly quickly. In the late morning, we managed to pass FH Bochum and Waterloo, the two teams directly ahead of us in the overall standings!

Rayce Day 6: Stage 3 Start

Today went pretty smoothly, as far as the rest of our race days thus far are concerned. This morning was mildly frustrating as the stage start put us right in to rush-hour traffic in downtown Sioux Falls, but the rest of the day went off relatively without incident.

Display Day and Awards

Today was a reasonably relaxed day, compared to the previous week. All of the team's cars were put on display out in front of the Plano Center in Plano, Texas; the location that the race is starting from tomorrow morning. Lots of interested people dropped by and talked to us, which we enjoyed, as we always love showing off our hard work.

At the dinner tonight, awards were given out...

Qualifying Day 2

Due to electrical issues yesterday, the team started the day in the #3 position, with 90 laps. Calgary completed 102 laps the previous day, and Michigan completed 140. We were able to keep Centaurus out on the track and running strong for most of the day, and it looked like it might be an interesting run for the pole position. Unfortunately, just as Michigan pulled back out onto the track after being sidelined in the pits for an hour, the over-temperature warnings tripped on our battery pack, forcing us to stop for some time. In the end, we qualified in 2nd place.

The University of Minnesota is officially qualified!

Earlier today, Centaurus completed enough laps to qualify for the main event; the cross-country race from here to Calgary. The team is still waiting for the judges to check everything over and make this "official", and Jeff still needs to log a few more laps in the car to be qualified as a driver, but this is another big milestone we've passed.

Spending the Night in Tulsa, OK

After some early-morning difficulties with the configuration of the team's support vehicles, the trip down south was fairly uneventful; the team is spending the night in Tulsa, OK. Tomorrow we will press onto to Texas and check in with the NASC officials, as well as begin final preparations on Centaurus for scrutineering and qualifying.
