New Database - Children's Core Collection (H.W. Wilson)

The Children's Core Collection is a specialized database with information about books both fiction and nonfiction, story collections, and picture books that are recommended for readers in preschool through sixth grade.

The abstracts give recommendation levels from Most Highly Recommended, Core Collection to Supplementary Title. Reading levels are identified. Starred reviews are cited and any "Best Lists" for the title are identified.

Professional literature for the children's librarian--both periodicals and books--is also covered. Selected and recommended by collection development specialists, books within Children's Core Collection encompass a wide variety of topics, including social sciences, science, math and reading.

Access to the Chronicle of Higher Education Everywhere

UMC's access to the Chronicle of Higher Education was limited to the UMC network or via our proxy. You can now get access anywhere even when you are not using the proxy. There are three ways to do this.

1) From iPad using the Chronicle's free iPad app can be found: here.
2) From your smart phone or tablet using the device's Web browser.
3) From any computer by direct access to Chronicle.com from any remote location
This solves the problem with articles forwarded from Academe Today or other Chronicle e-newsletters which would not open because they were limited to the sending network.

You have to establish a free Chronicle account using your university email address. (If you already have one great). A Chronicle account can be created by going to Chronicle.com and clicking on the "create" link at top, right hand side of Web page.

You must use your email address with the crk.umn.edu domain. Generally you will only have to log in once and the settings will be retained.
