Download Gale articles as mp3 files

Most of the Gale research databases now allow you to download an MP3 audio file of the article to a media player, iTunes or to other destinations of your choice. Commuters can listen while they drive.

This is a part of Gale's effort to provide text-to-speech audio for articles in their databases. The speech is generated mechanically by the ReadSpeaker software and not prerecorded--and is read back to the user by an automated electronic voice.

Accessibility is the primary driver behind the implementation of this new technological capability. This feature is intended to meet the "needs of those students for whom reading text on a screen was a challenge: those at lower reading levels, those with learning disabilities, English as a second language students, and students who are visually impaired."

All of the text-to-speech audio is generated mechanically by the ReadSpeaker product--not prerecorded--and is read back to the user by an automated electronic voice.
