Turfgrass Information File

The Turfgrass Information File is a cooperative venture between Michigan State University and the United States Golf Association (USGA) Turfgrass Research Program. Turfgrass Information File (TGIF) indexes all types of works related to turfgrass culture including journals, monographs, fact sheets and pamphlets, images, and web documents. Most records in TGIF contain informative abstracts; some contain full text or are linked to web-accessible full text.

The databases had been freely available for a number of years but after upgrades and improvements the Turfgrass Information Center began charging for access. This is a focused database with many unique resources. The UMC Library is pleased to be able to provide access to this.

New free database from Ebsco

Teacher Reference Center
Provides indexing and abstracts for over 280 of the most popular teacher and administrator trade journals to assist professional educators. This database has links to text of articles in other Ebsco databases and is FindIT enabled.

Sage Full-Text Collections

The UMC Library has subscribed to the Sage Full-Text Collections which consists of more than 230 peer-reviewed journals containing 80,000 plus articles, book reviews, and editorials from SAGE Publications and participating societies.

We are very excited about this addition because the new journals add significantly to the full text available to those using our databases (using Find It). The subjects match well with UMC's academic offerings and add significant resources to our journal collection.

The new journals are divided into eleven discipline specific research databases. Disciplines included are: Communication Studies, Criminology, Education, Management & Organization Studies, Materials Science, Nursing and Health Sciences, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Urban Studies.

Sage continues to add titles to these collections.

New Federal Income Tax Resource

The UMC Library has subscribed to RIA's Checkpoint® system. Checkpoint® is a tax and accounting research resource. It provides access to the federal tax laws, cases and regulations as well as news and analysis of these laws and regulations.

Click on the Reseach tab at the top of the page to search this database.

PowerSearch - One search to unite them all

Google has created an expectation that there should be a simple interface that searches everything and what is found should be immediately available. Libraries and database vendors are responding to this demand creating by single consolidated (federated) search of all of a vendor's resources.

An example of one of these consolidated searches is the new Thomson Gale PowerSearch - PowerSearch searches all (or a selected subset) of the Thompson Gale Infotrac databases. The interface is well thought out and is user centered. Breadcrumbs, ability to search within the document, within the journal, linked subject headings, clear identification of source database and multiple output options are but a few features. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Ebsco's Hospitality and Tourism Index now has full text

Hospitality and Tourism Index now contains the full text for more 130 unique hospitality and tourism publications. It had been an index with abstracts. The full text plus FindIt links to text in our major periodicals collections and in other linked databases makes this one stop shopping for research in this area.

The views and opinions expressed in this page are strictly those of the page author. The contents of this page have not been reviewed or approved by the University of Minnesota.
