So Many Thoughts
I feel that I am beginning to develop a deeper understanding of some very complex issues. However, I feel that I have only hit the tip of an enormous iceberg, and that I have been blind to some very important issues. As we begin to pick apart different issues in regards to intersectionality, race, gender and class, I find that there are many layers that I often do not critically analyze enough. For instance, the scenarios presented in class today, were very difficult to arrive at a conclusion and the simple answer of "just leave" is not a reality for many victims of domestic violence. I was startled, by some of the data and statistics presented in the readings for 9/21, but one statistic in particular really stood out and alarmed me, "homicide by intimate partners is the leading cause of death for African American women between the ages of 15 and 24" (West pp163). I keep thinking how can this be? What can we all do different to prevent this?
