Welcome Week Activities...in the works

As a part of Welcome Week for incoming students, we will be participating in Utopia on Sunday, August 31st. This event is intended to make students aware of more opportunities and organizations on campus--through the use of games and activities.

We are incredibly excited about the ideas that we have brewing, and would like to share some of those with you!

* Guess the number of bottles in one bale, as well as how long it takes to generate that many.
* Ride a "power bike" (a bicycle connected to a lightbulb or another household item), to see and understand how much energy it takes to power a light bulb.
*Simulate the Pacific Trash Vortex (which is where most of our plastic bags end up), to create awareness for our new plastic bag recycling program.
*Set-up a vignette of items that students could purchase at ReUse and compare their pricing to that of a big box store.

Let us know if you have any other ideas!

Welcome week rocked!

Aww...sad :( I really would've liked to do some of this!

I was unable to attend this event but it sounds great--environmental awareness is key!

Unfortunately I couldn't attend this event but it sounds like a lot of fun, especially the power bike.

This stuff was so much fun at U topia!

sounds interesting~~

I seemed to have missed a lot of these things.

Utopia was the best part of welcome week!

Sounds like fun!

I never got the chance to do that!

I can't imaging how many bottles are in that cube.

I was unable to make Welcome Week but the activities sounded fun. I think they are good ways to get the students involved!

I think I may have seen this Utopia booth. It was very interesting.

I must have missed some of this! Guessed the number of bottles though... it was interesting! :)

Fine, such recycling awareness has to be prevalent to make people realize the importance of recycling and it's advantage of making environment clean.
