Day 44

Yoga & Lifting
I had an excellent triceps, chest and shoulders workout. I'm solid at a higher weight on the bench press and looking to boost it again soon. I had to switch up my routine because someone was using the machine I usually use to do triceps, and so I did kick-backs with a dumbbell. It reminded me that switching things up is good, because I really hit the triceps in a different way today. Yoga was solid, too.

Jujutsu
Kids' class was great as usual on Saturday. I haven't read or done anything the past two days. I need to get some notebook work in this week...

Day 43

Yoga and Lifting
Excellent day. I felt really good and strong during my Biceps and Back session.

Jujutsu
Read more GUTT today. Very interesting and stuff I'll have to think about and try during Randori. I'm looking forward to advanced class tonight and kids' class tomorrow.

Days 41 & 42

Yoga and Lifting
At jujutsu last night, I noticed that I can do a lot more with my legs during groundwork. My flexibility seems to have dramatically increased. Lifting (legs yesterday and triceps, chest, shoulders today) was fine. I had a sore neck from Monday that finally worked its way out last night a jujutsu and I felt better today.

Jujutsu
I've been reading GUTT the last few days. Some interesting concepts about posture (keeping upright with your head above your hips above your feet) and about the difference between rhythm and speed. Last night my throws had deteriorated a bit, but my ground work felt much better. I almost didn't go because of a sore muscle in my neck. It turned out that I worked that out in practice. Good karma.

Day 40

Yoga and Lifting
I had a sore neck today. The yoga seems to have worked it out enough so that I could do my usual biceps and back lifts.

Jujutsu
I read some of GUTT today.

Days 37, 38, 39

Yoga & Lifting
Lifting has gone well with a steady increase in weight across all muscle groups. Yoga has also been good. One measure that the yoga is working: in Jujutsu when I am Uke for Kata Hagai it is difficult to get me to submit.

Jujutsu
Learned a cool new pressure point striking kata. Also did the second half of the Shime list. The kids' class was a blast. Angelique is like a pit bull on hold downs and tends to rule the "triangle of doom." All three girls are putting out maximum effort and having fun.

Days Thirty-Five and Thirty-Six

Yoga & Lifting
I lifted triceps, chest, shoulders, and legs. I have been steadily increasing weights and felling good. I've added a few yoga stretches before Jujutsu practice.

Jujutsu
I got through most of the Goshin list Wednesday. Ward gave some tips on Katamune Tori: I need to strike the forearm harder and with a "limp" hand. I also need to wait on my foot work until after that strike and to do smaller footwork. Sohn broke down Yama Arashi for a new student and I realized I am skipping a few important steps and not keeping my sweeping leg straight. I've been reading "GUTT" and it is very interesting.

Days Thirty-Two Through Thirty-Four

Yoga and Lifting
Yoga was solid. Lifting was excellent with increased weights in every category.

Jujutsu
Friday night class was excellent. I made it through Yawara and Nage, worked through some interesting pressure point and groundwork exercises, and finished with the first 10 Oku. Saturday kids' class was also fantastic. The girls are really enthusiastic and working hard at it.

Day Thirty-One

Yoga and Lifting
I skipped this part of the workout this morning. I went snowboarding yesterday and had a really rough Jujutsu practice, then stayed out for a beer. I will double-up on lifting tomorrow but today I needed the rest.

Jujutsu
I had an excellent workout. I flew through the Nage list and the throws are feeling very natural. Ward corrected my choke in Yama Arashi to be deeper and actually around the wind pipe. He also told me to leave my hands in neutral and let the sweep do everything in Deahi Harai. Finally, he told me to get my upper arm parallel to the floor on Seoi Nage.

I did the whole Goshin list and I am really starting to feel comfortable with the list. We finished with 30 minutes of ground work and I left all of my energy and a little bit of skin on the mat. Excellent workout, overall.

Day Thirty

Yoga & Lifting
Excellent yoga session today. I really feel my flexibility increasing. Lifting was also great. I did biceps and back and had a very solid workout followed by shooting baskets.

Jujutsu
I will be doing notebook work today and then class tonight.

Days Twenty-Eight & Twenty-Nine

Yoga & Lifting
Saturday was a solid leg day. Daylight savings set me back and I slept in on Monday, missing one of only a couple of days this past two months. Today I got up and managed to double up with triceps, chest, shoulders and also legs. It was a very good workout.

Jujutsu
Saturday kids' class was excellent. It was a great workout for me as an assistant instructor and it was great fun for my girls. The two older ones are definitely hooked. The youngest is a bit on the fence but may come around.

Day Twenty-Seven

Yoga and Lifting
I was very stiff and sore from yesterday's workout, but the usual ten sun salutations worked well to get that out of my system. I did an intense biceps and back workout today.

Jujutsu
I'll be doing notebook work today from Wednesdays class, then I have advanced class tonight.

Day Twenty-Six

Yoga & Lifting
I did triceps, chest, shoulders and legs to catch up from an unplanned day off yesterday. It was an intense workout. The usual yoga before lifting felt great.

Jujutsu
I did the whole Goshin and Shime lists, then some Judo throws and ground work. It was an excellent class.

Yoga
I still need to add a hip opening form soon, but the Sun Salutations are feeling excellent.

Lifting
I had an excellent biceps and back day.

I read through my requirements list and thought about techniques.

Days Twenty-Three and Twenty-Four

Yoga and Lifting
The usual sun salutations felt great. I lifted biceps and back Saturday morning and triceps and chest this morning. My bench press and military press are going up and I felt really good.

Jujutsu
I looked at my requirements sheet this morning and thought through some techniques. The kids' class on Saturday was awesome and the kids said they wished they could do it every day. I can't wait to jump in there next Saturday. I really need to get some notebook work done because I am being exposed to new techniques every class and things are going very well.
