Days 81, 82, 83 & 84

Yoga & Lifting
My sore knee is finally mending, but I have avoided leg workouts and anything that might strain it again. My upper body lifting has gone well, though.

Jujutsu
I've been working on left-hand techniques quite a bit the last few weeks. I switched back to right this week. Practices have been solid.

Days 78, 79 & 80

Yoga & Lifting
My knee has been sore, so yoga has been tentative and I have skipped lifting with legs. My upper body workouts have been great, though. I've been having a few more rest days in between just due to being busy and tired, and the layoff has helped me ratchet up the intensity.

Jujutsu
The knee has limited me to about 90% of my list, which isn't terrible. I've been working on left hand stuff and did knife and gun techniques as well as the rest of my usual list this past week. The kids' class was awesome. They are really catching on and having fun.

Day 77

Yoga & Lifting
I was able to push my starting weight up and also added reps to my highest weight on the bench press. Very good day.

Jujutsu
I did Yawara with variations; Goshin; Left Nage; Striking kata; and ground work. In Goshin I adjusted some of my technique from feedback. I turned my hands in when dropping to escape from a reverse bear hug; I used my body weight to drop Uke on Ushiro Gyaku... Left Nage went well although I had to repeat a few things to get them right.

Day 76

Yoga & Lifting
Great sessions today. My knee felt better, so yoga was smoother. I was able to work really hard on my "pull" lifting session.

Jujutsu
Kids' class was fun. My knee range of motion was almost normal. I re-read part of GUTT this morning.

Days 74 & 75

Yoga & Lifting
Had an excellent "push" session this morning. I was able to up my weight and reps at the bench press and felt really focused.

Jujutsu
I was able to get through my whole list again on Friday. My knee is sore so I was not able to do some techniques last night but I did get through most everything except Shime and I also did most of the 20 Nage left. Sohn gave me some tips in the second half of Goshin that I will write by each technique in my notebook.

Day 73

Yoga & Lifting
Great sessions this morning. Managed 15 pull-ups after blowing out on 40 lb dumbbell curls, so a week off helped.

Jujutsu
Thought about some of the things I learned Wednesday. My posture is a thread through all techniques that I need to think about. An upright posture is generally the rule. If not for stability on a throw, it is for maintaining distance after your opponent is on the ground so that they can't reach you for a strike. I've notice that I am really solid on those techniques which are most complex and difficult and I've slipped a bit on the "easy" techniques. I need to write up my notebook and get some of the tips in there to internalize them.

Day 72

Jujutsu
I'm still a little out of balance with my workouts because I am so busy working on home projects. But I am back at Jujutsu practice. Last night I was able to get through Goshin, Shime, Oku, Nage, the striking kata, basic striking, and Yawara variations. It was a great night. I was coached in some subtle ways that position makes a hug difference in techniques, such as keeping the elbow to the chest in single-wing constriction...

Day 72

Lifting & Yoga
I took a 10 day layoff from working out. I was doing extensive projects around the house to get it ready for sale, though, so my body got worked (not ergonomically). It felt good to be back today, especially the yoga.

Jujutsu
I also did not attend class last week while consumed by the house project. Out of balance and not good.

Day 71

Yoga & Lifting
My yoga has really smoothed out and the breathing is pretty automatic. I still need to add hip opening forms, but what I am doing is excellent. I lifted legs and core today. Excellent workout. I was able to increase weights in most categories.

Jujutsu
I finished GUTT and started reviewing some concepts. It has been very interesting for me to see the dissection of throws down to minute detail and I think it will really help me as I continue working on throws. For instance, once I became more aware of the concept of Suki (opportunity or opening) and speed, I began playing with fast and slow foot sweeps and it gave me new insights.

Day 70

Lifting and Yoga
I've been thinking about breathing and what I've heard both from my Yoga instructor and Sensei. So I am very thoughtfully incorporating breathing from the "stomach" into my yoga and lifting, as well as jujutsu. My Yoga was great this morning and took a little longer because of the deep breathing. Lifting was a "pull" day and I managed a great workout.

Jujutsu
I had a great class last night. A black belt senior student and I were sent off with a Judo brown belt guest and told to show him some of our favorite techniques. By listening to and doing some in depth descriptions I got some new insights into techniques, so this was very valuable. Toward the end of class we did some ground work and the Judo guy was pretty good - especially at chokes. He shared some techniques with us, too. It makes me miss Judo class, but I simply can't fit one more night a week into my life... yet

Day 69

Lifting & Yoga
I've been pushing my bench press quite a bit. This requires a spotter, so I've been asking for help for a couple of sets. Yoga was fine this AM. I need to add a hip opener to my line-up, though. I've noticed that is a weak spot for me in jujutsu.

Jujutsu
Read more GUTT this AM. Finished the throwing theory. Now I need to review the four basic parts and the diagrams from the beginning. I first need to finish the end of the document that talks about how to be a student of Nage. I'm looking forward to practice tonight.

Yoga & Lifting
Nice to get my yoga in again this morning. I was doing my "pull" lifts today and managed to push my weight up 15 pounds in Pullovers, Pull downs, and Seated Rows. I also pushed the Dumbbell curls up by 5 pounds. Good workout.

Jujutsu
Excellent workout Friday night. I did all yawara with variations, all Nage, the usual freestyle yawara and Zanshin drills, pressure point kata, and all of Shime.

Lifting
Was running late and skipped yoga today. Will do jujutsu tonight. Lifting session was great! I had pushed up my bench last week and this week I did more reps at that new weight and a second set. The rest of the workout was good too.

Day 66

Jujutsu
After two days in bed with a bad cold, I juiced up on cold medicine and ventured out to jujutsu. I felt a little "floaty" on that stuff, but had a good practice. I managed to go through variations and counters in Yawara, the full Goshin and Nage lists, a fair amount of Oku, and some ground work. I also watched the Sensei teach basic rolls and falls to a new student, which was a nice refresher for me to know when I work with new students. I slept in this morning and did not lift or do yoga. Back to that tomorrow.

Days 62 - 65

Yoga
My usual workout schedule was interrupted for a few days and I actually did a pretty intense hiking, rock climbing, etc. level of activity. I noticed that my recovery time has been consistently excellent. Yoga felt great when I got back and I really credit it with my overall recovery ability.

Lifting
I managed to increase my bench press and hack squats during this time frame. I was also happy that after climbing the wall I was able to do a couple of pull-ups at the top.

Jujutsu
I only attended the kids' class during this time frame and did not manage to work on my notebook or read GUTT, so no progress in this arena.
