Blog Prompt 4: Letting the mind wonder

What would you do if you were completely released from the constraints of the “architecture school program, what would you do? I don’t think that it is schooling program that is holding architects and designers back! I think it is money and society that are the factors that are holding designers and architects back from meeting there full potential. I think many designers have many ideas to help the community but without the funds to sponsor it or a society to accept it, it’s never going to get farther than just an idea.

One thing I would want to do if I was not held down by any constraints would be to help built more shelters for the homeless. I would want this shelter to be more than just a place for people to sleep and escape the environment. I would want this shelter to be like a helping community. It would have a comfort environment where the users would fell involved and welcomed. I would also want there to be a connection with local establishments, so people could get help getting back on their own two feet with getting a job and a place of their own. I would also have groups that they can join to help their own community, like maintaining a garden or helping out at the food self or kitchen that would be within the shelter. I think that by helping people get more involved and with easier access to helping organizations, it would be more than just a place to spend the night; it would be a place to get a fresh start. I also think by having more involvement with the community and help from organizations, I would hope that when people do get back on the right foot, they could go back and help others get what they need to get back on their feet also.

I think that there is more to just building a building. In order for a building to be used to its full potential it has to have a potential to be used to. In other words when someone is designing a building, the have to imagine it’s different possibilities and incorporate those into the design. For walls and a roof can be thought up by anyone, but to create a place that encloses an idea takes more effort and time, but is definitely recognized in the outcome.
