March 2010 Archives
Hope everyone had a wonderful break and good luck with the second half! Just a reminder that the UMD Mud Guid Pot Till You Drop Throw-a-thon is this Thursday, March 25th. The Throw-a-thon will be held in the ceramics studio from 6pm until you literally drop. No wheel throwing experience necessary as you will be able to hand build as well and there will be snacks and beverages provided. We will fire and glaze the bowls at a later date if you would like to be a part of that as well.
We will be making bowls for the 16th Annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser, which will be held at the Depot on Tuesday, April 20th from 10am to 6:30pm. 100% of the proceeds are donated to local food banks!
Hope to see you there!
3-Exhibit Gallery Reception event March 18 at the Duluth Art Institute in the Depot
The public is invited to a reception celebrating three new exhibits in the DAI galleries in the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center, also known as the Depot. Combining the three gallery receptions into one night, the free event will be held on Thursday, March 18 from 5 - 7 pm. The exhibits include blown glass, portrait painting, & mixed media.
something comforting in the work of the "tried and true" late
career artists who have refined their work and come into their own voice
through years of art-making. However, in this exhibition we are opting to bask
in the fresh, new exuberance of "untried" youth! We will be
presenting the work of twelve emerging artists from our area: Naomi Asselin,
James Cook, Dave Engesser, Christopher Hagen, Kevin Kramer, Jennie Lennick,
Molly Martancik, Morgan Pease, Brit Salmela, Lara Simpson, Michael Smisek, and
Suzanne Wyss. Join us in celebrating the excitement of artwork that is sometimes
experimental, often subversive, frequently unpredictable, but always true.
