Artist Dialogue - Thursday, April 8, 6-7pm at the Duluth Art Institute in the Depot
The public is invited to an artist dialogue with Artist/Educator Sarah Brokke centered on the work in the exhibition, "Ripple Effect: The Art of Creative Influence." The moderated discussion will be held in the John Steffl Gallery at the DAI in the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center, also known as the Depot.
Effect: The Art of Creative Influence
Exhibition runs through May 14, 2010
Since 2005, Sarah Brokke has participated with the Duluth Art Institute as both an exhibiting artist and as a teacher in our education program. Her classes have garnered a loyal following of students who have, through her tutelage, become artists in their own right. While these newly formed artists have their own artistic voices, they also have been influenced by the distinct style of their teacher. The present exhibition will highlight Sarah's work alongside the work of her most advanced students and present what could well be called the "Brokke School" of Painting. My philosophy of teaching is simple: Through the process of creating one can discover self. Knowing this, I feel it is more than my job; it is my privilege to open doors for exploration for each individual I teach. Art is amorphous. It shifts and evolves and always has the potential to change and enrich peoples' lives.
