Good News! There will be no readings for next week! However, I do still want you to post one posting on your blog that has to do with the following:

Please find a feature magazine article with accompanying illustrations (I will give examples in class) and discuss why the illustrations and typographic treatment are appropriate for the content of the feature article.

Remember on Monday/Tuesday, your final poster is Due! You must print the poster at full size but do not mount.

Check this out!

This guy, who recently graduated with his MFA concentrating in design has a great website. What I like most about it is that he shows his process for his projects and even talks about it on accompanying videos. His work is good and that, my friends, is proof that the more you put into it, the better the outcome will be!

Important Information Missing from Readings!

In anatomy one, it will help to know two more things; one, the designer of this 2003 poster is Copper Greene.

Each one of the posters is analyzed in various ways pulling from either current events in news or from a progressive line of of similar designs from historical to present examples. In this Iraq poster here is what they are drawing from:

The first line of inquiry is about History-defining photography.
The second line of inquiry is about KKK costumes and sacrificial positions.
The third is about figure silhouettes.

In anatomy 2, the designer is Cyan and it was done in 1997. The first line of inquiry is optical patterns; the second is same design, different colors and the third is clip art.

In anatomy 3, the designer is Milton Glaser from 1987. The first line of inquiry is unusual shapes; the second is folded paper corners; and the third is creased and layered papers.

Who is the Audience?
International Decision-Makers; Broader Public

What is the Message?
The Rapprochement of Cultures, and has defined three main dimensions: dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation.

The activities carried out under the International Year focus on:

* Promoting reciprocal knowledge of cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity
* Building a framework for commonly shared values
* Strengthening quality education and the building of intercultural competencies
* Fostering dialogue for sustainable development.

Participants of the competition are invited to express their vision and understanding of the "Rapprochement of Cultures" by designing posters that creatively emphasize the importance of exchange and dialogue among and between cultures in ensuring social cohesion and harmonious coexistence.

Please do not forget that you need to have 4, that's 4 different poster designs ready for critique on Mon/Tues of next week.

You also have 2 blog posts due for next week. See below. We will have the discussion on Wed./Thur. as our critique will probably take the whole time on Mon/Tues.

Mon/Tues: Critique of 4 poster designs; Blog post on international design discussion from this article found on Icograda, the International Council of Design Associations.

Also have a blog post on your own finding of an example of international design with a discussion about how it is different than design from U.S. What type of imagery is being used? How do they use color? Is message conveyed differently than here? More humor or is it more to the point? What type of cultural influences does the design have?

Wed./Thur.: Discussion of international design article plus findings of international design; studio time.
