Reminder: OIT data center maintenance

Just wanted to share a reminder of the annual WBOB data center maintenance; service interruption scheduled for Jan. 5–6, 2013

Several of the services we use at Morris (including PeopleSoft) are provided through the Office of Information Technology ("OIT"). OIT maintains several data centers, the largest of which is the West Bank Office Building ("WBOB") data center.

Once annually, OIT needs to plan for a maintenance outage, so they can better support the enterprise services we rely on. This year's maintenance is set for 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, with restoration beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. It is expected that all affected services will be restored by noon Sunday.

The outage is required in order to perform necessary maintenance, testing, and repairs to facility infrastructure, and involves a complete shutdown of the main data center, resulting in interruption to IT services during that time.

Determined by consensus and communicated during the 2011 annual maintenance shutdown, OIT established the first full weekend in January following the New Year's holiday as the regular maintenance shutdown weekend each year. The work is being planned through coordinated efforts with the University's IT Change Approval Board.

A complete list of affected services is being prepared, and will be shared with the University community as soon as it is available. Regular updates also will be shared via email, website posts and various other news outlets. Updates also will be available on the Data Center Operations Services website, and on the University's system status page, and on Twitter @ UMN_IT during the service interruption period.

Questions and concerns should be directed to Data Center Operations Services service owner, Joe Zanmiller, at jpz@umn.edu.
