2006 Apr 28 Part 2
Changes made by Bill Tantzen.
Jeff,
I'm sure you've heard complaints about the blog server being particularly
slow - I just want to fill you in on what I have done so far:
-- I have double the number of available servers ( 20 to 40 )
-- I cut the allowable image size in half to accommodate the extra servers
-- I turned off hostname lookups
The advantage of doubling the servers is obvious, the disadvantage to
limiting their size is that they get killed rather quickly - sometimes after
servicing only one or two requests making them hardly better than plain old
cgi. I don't know what you feeling or policy is on hostname lookup.
None of this has had a noticeable effect on the speed.
Note that this is not a movabletype problem. I am not even logged in. This
is strictly static html, no cgi/ssl or anything involved.
The traffic seems to be unusually brisk. A recent check showed over 48,000
hits so far
My initial diagnosis is simply the heavy traffic due to some recent and
popular blog entries, and I'm seeing no signs of DOS attacks or spam
onslaughts.
